UPCOMING CHANGE
Sometime later this month we will make a major change to our site. We are going to a Myspace style site with customizable profiles and each profile will have their own gallery. Original intent was to focus the site more on fire news however with user submissions low and very little time on our behalf we simply cannot keep up to date with fire news and current events while we are out involved in our own local events. We feel that moving to more of a community site will be better for all. Each user can have their own blog so they can post their own fire news as they wish.
Keep an eye out for the new site coming soon !!

Current United States
Large Incident Fires

California fires rage out of control with a current
count of 37 being listed as large incident fires. A dry lightning storm
sparked off over 800 fires last week and crews have their hands full
with trying to get these fires under control.
Fire crews joined aircraft from neighboring states to
battle hundreds of lightning-caused wildfires across Northern
California. The blazes have scorched tens of thousands of acres and
forced hundreds of residents to flee, though few buildings have been
destroyed, said Daniel Berlant, a spokesman for the state’s Department
of Forestry and Fire Protection. A blaze that had charred nearly six
square miles in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest about 160 miles north
of Sacramento was a threat to about 1,200 homes and several youth camps.
Mendocino County alone had 110 fires, with just 17 contained. In
Monterey County, a fire near the coast south of Big Sur was only 3
percent contained.
The weekend storm was unusual not only because it generated so many
lightning strikes over a large geographical area, but also because it
struck so early in the season and moved in from the Pacific Ocean. Such
storms usually don't arrive until late July or August and typically form
southeast of California. |
Texas is currently listing 6 large incident fires with many smaller ones
popping up across the state while Tennessee fire crews battle two large
fires of their own. Tennessee crews were dispatched to a fire in the
foothills parkway Monday June 23rd where forestry are battling a fire in
rough terrain. Some unconfirmed reports had the fire at 100 acres plus
however we have been unable to confirm this as of yet. In Morgan County TN forestry crews along with national park
service continue to battle a fire along the Obed River in steep river
gorges that is proving to be as rough as some of the California terrain.
The fire was under control Thursday 26th but due to dry conditions crews
are still patrolling the lines.
Currently southern Texas, Georgia, North and South Carolina are still
being impacted by extreme drought which will no doubt play a critical
role in the upcoming late summer and fall seasons as far as fire is
concerned.
